Originated by Hans van Klinken as a caddis pattern, the Klinkhamer is designed to hang down in the film and imitate an insect that is about to emerge. This is also a great a searching pattern in the riffles. The abdomen sits below the surface film and, at times, will trigger takes even when there is no hatch, making it one of my favorite dry fly patterns.

The cerise wing post makes it easy to spot, even with a little chop on the water, and the super sharp Daiichi hook is designed specifically for this pattern. Apply floatant to the hackle and thorax of the fly, but leave the abdomen untreated so it hangs down beneath the surface film.
