This is our version the original Big Mac pattern designed by guide John Tavenner for the San Juan River. We use a thread head coated with resin instead of dubbing in the original. It imitates the larger size midges that start to appear in the spring and from time to time during the summer, and when they are present the trout key in on them. Tied on a super sharp xl  hook.
As you can see from the comparison picture above, the segmentation provides the aooearance of a natural midge pupa and it may not take long for this pattern to become a regular in your fly box.
